Escape Rooms

Here are all the escape rooms I’ve attempted and their outcomes. I started logging around Thanksgiving 2017 and my first escape.

Location Date Room Escaped? Participants Comments
The Escape Company – Orlando, FL Winter 2017 The Hidden Temple Yes 2 Least favorite room ever.
The Escape Company – Orlando, FL Winter 2017 Outlawed No 4 OK, large game. Failed to ask for a specific clue early on.
The Escape Company – Orlando, FL Winter 2017 Suburban Serial Killer Yes 4 Favorite room at this location.
Elite Escape Games – Mt. Pleasant, SC Spring 2018 Meltdown Yes 6 Wide variation of locks and puzzles.
Break Out Charleston, Charleston SC Spring 2018 The Serial Killer Yes 3 Theme was well done.
Break Out Charleston, Charleston SC Spring 2018 Bank Heist Yes 3 Contained one of the most entertaining puzzles I’ve encountered to date.
Elite Escape Games – Mt. Pleasant, SC Summer 2018 Escape Area 51 Yes 5 Most electronic locks I’ve encountered to date.
Charleston Escape Game – Charleston, SC 10/8/2018 Taking Back Charleston Yes 5 Unique final puzzle.
Escape 605 – Sioux Falls, SD 1/1/2019 Bank Heist Yes 5 First time with another group. Dad’s first room. 6 does not equal 9.
Elite Escape Games – Mount Pleasant, SC 2/17/2019 Derailed Yes 5 Most intricate game design to date (moving train). Did not care for final puzzle. One puzzle was used twice.
Escape Savannah – Savannah, GA 4/20/2019 Escape the Haunted Room Yes 3 Rules seemed to contradict a required discovery to escape. First time escaping for my friends Jim and Diane. First time with an actor in the room instead of cameras.
Elite Escape Games – Mount Pleasant, SC 5/18/2019 Undead Outbreak Yes 8 Great room with a good mix of traditional and electronic locks. Games were fun. First time escaping for my friends the Graham family.
Escape 605 – Sioux Falls, SD 12/8/2019 Area 51 Yes 7 Good room. First escape for a few folks. Used 2 hints – to avoid this listen VERY carefully to the instructions at the beginning and keep an eye on the markings around the room.
Unlock Madison – Madison, SD 9/19/2021 Escape the 80’s Yes 3 Parents and I had a fun time escaping this one – neat clues, fun theme, happy to have them in Madison!
Unlock Madison – Madison, SD 4/29/2022 Hacked Yes 6 Neat game with a bit of a local tie in to the University. I believe we had a new record of getting out, but it was due to a guess and skipping part of the game.
Unlock Madison – Madison, SD 12/28/2022 Grounded Yes 6 Fully custom holiday themed game from the folks here in Madison. Was a blast. I believe we set a new record despite using one hint. Would recommend.
EscapeWorks Denver – Denver, CO 9/30/2023 Outbreak Yes 4 Great room rules – unlimited hints, and private groups only. We used only one hint and got out really quickly. We missed a clue and relied on a guess that cost us a bit of time. Would visit this location again. They’re retiring this game soon.
Puzzle Effect – Phoenix, AZ 12/3/2023 Outbreak Yes 3 Second time I’ve had a room with unlimited hints as you need them. Completed the room with about 20m to go. Once element was used twice, which was mentioned in the rules and a clue. Good game. Would try their others.
Escapades – Sioux Falls, SD 6/22/2024 The Headmaster’s Heist at Greengott’s Yes 6 First room here! Previously enjoyed their murder mystery dinner party event quite a bit, so was looking forward to this. I also love Harry Potter. We escaped, and the game was well written. We missed a critical clue about 20 minutes in that cost us about 20 minutes, but that’s on us. Notable for me, I didn’t care for the gamemaster. He was helpful enough during the game, but at the end seemed quite arrogant and rude about our performance. For that reason alone, I might never go back to do another game here if he’ll be the gamemaster.
Deadwood Escape Rooms – Deadwood, SD 6/28/2024 Wild West Heist Yes 5 The room was developed locally to follow some of the history of Deadwood, so that was neat. Pretty basic room with simple locks. There’s an important clue involving math that is a bit confusing (not because of the math itself, but how the math is described). After asking for a clue, we quickly moved on from it. If your math fails, ask for a clue.
